This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first county park system in America. In 1922 the Westchester Park Commission was incorporated, pioneering the establishment of an extensive network of open space, nature preserves oases, roadways through scenic areas, and abundant opportunities for recreation. Beginning with the Bronx River Parkway Commission, to the amassing of thousands of acres of property, this 60-minute digital slide presentation reveals the early story of Westchester’s extraordinary park system. A fitting way to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month! Presented by Barbara Davis, Westchester County Historical Society Co-Director and New Rochelle City Historian.
