The City of New Rochelle in conjunction with the New Rochelle Public Library celebrated Arbor Day with a tree planting in Ruby Dee Park at Library Green on Friday, April 29. Deputy Mayor Jared Rice- Councilmember for District 3, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann, Public Works Commissioner Alex Tergis, Deputy Public Works Commissioner Scott Pickup, Planning & Sustainability Director Nina Arron and Arborist Paul Rebholz were joined at the ceremony by children enjoying the Library’s vacation week programming which included crafts and sapling-planting.

"Today's tree planting is evidence of our commitment to greening our City. The benefits of trees are enormous; in our parks, lining our streets, and in our yards. We are proud that this is our 25th year as a Tree City,” said Deputy Mayor Jared Rice.

Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, conserving water and preserving soil. The City of New Rochelle’s goals for tree planting are outlined in GreeNR, the City’s sustainability plan.
