In an effort to provide support to local retail businesses, the City of New Rochelle has established a new Retail Business Registration Program beginning January 1, 2015. Businesses can sign up online at www.newrochelleny.com/business through an information portal available in both English and Spanish. The data collected will assist in the creation of a comprehensive business directory, and be used to share emergency alerts as well as notification of business-related events and opportunities.
All retail businesses are required to enter the program by March 31, 2015. There is NO FEE to register; however, failure to register by the deadline will result in a penalty of $50 per month, up to a maximum of $350. Registration is annual and in subsequent years must be completed during the month of January.
A retail business is defined as any for-proft commercial operation or occupation, of any kind, including, without limitation, any sole proprietorship, partnership, limited partnership, joint venture, association, corporation, limited liability company, franchisee, cooperative, or any other entity recognized by law that owns, leases, or occupies any premises in the City, and is engaged in the sale of goods or services that are subject to New York state sales tax. For the purposes of this section, the registration requirement shall include the retail store component of any not for profit entity.
