The City of New Rochelle has launched an exciting new competition to re-imagine its waterfront and downtown communities in the area of Echo Bay. The three-part “Waterfront Gateway Design Competition”, launched on June 20, focuses on the development of a 2.92 acre plot located at the edge of the downtown on Route 1. Adjacent to residential neighborhoods, the site is located on an important promontory overlooking Long Island Sound's Echo Bay and is currently home to the former naval Armory.
The Waterfront Gateway Design Competition seeks creative and innovative proposals for the design, planning, and re-imaging of the site, as well as two adjacent parcels on Echo Bay. It is anticipated that the winning proposal, which will be selected by a high-profile jury of architects, planners, and public officials, will become the basis for the development of the site.
“We believe this is the most important competition to take place in Westchester County in many years,” said Development Commissioner Luiz Aragon. “We look forward to receiving unique and innovative proposals that will activate this currently underutilized site while honoring its heritage.”
