[ARCHIVED] 2012 NRPD Annual Report Released

New Rochelle retained its ranking as one of the safest cities nationally in 2011, according to the 2012 Annual Report released this week by the New Rochelle Police Department. The City was the 10th safest city nationwide out of 120 cities with comparable population. Additionally, the City of New Rochelle has the lowest crime rate among similar municipalities in Westchester County and New York State.

For over a decade, New Rochelle remained among the top 5 safest cities nationally among smaller-sized cities (population 70-80,000) and still retains that designation in 2011. Due to the recent Census, New Rochelle also qualifies for listing in a higher population range (75,000 to 99,999) and still remained within the top ten (top 8%).

Incorporated in the annual report were figures for Part I Crimes for the City of New Rochelle for 2012. The percent change from 2011 shows a modest decrease overall but a significant decrease in the violent crimes of Aggravated Assault (7%), Robbery (20%) and Murder (50%). And when compared to figures over the past decade, the crime rate remains historically low.

“The double-digit decrease in violent crime since last year is significant,” said New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll. “These numbers reflect the vigilance of the department, even more crucial during these challenging economic times.”

Additionally in 2012, the report shows the department:
• Responded to 51,000 calls for service
• Implemented new video enhancing software
• Served the community through educational, preventive and volunteer programs including
SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), New Rochelle FOCUS, and HOPE Community Kitchen.
