Thanks to the collective efforts and generosity of local restaurants and community partners and the development community, New Rochelle families received extra support and care this Thanksgiving week through two events coordinated by the New Rochelle Youth Bureau.
On Monday, November 20, City Manager Kathleen Gill and Schools Superintendent Dr. Corey Reynolds hosted the annual City Manager-Superintendent Community dinner for over 150 residents. House IV Cafeteria was turned into a festive venue with a DJ, photo wall, and delicious food from local restaurants (see list below*) served by City and District staff.
On Tuesday morning, November 21, the giving continued with the distribution of 200 turkeys to local families, along with pies donated by Stop and Shop. The drive-through event at City Hall mobilized commissioners and senior staff from Police, Fire, Public Works, Development, Finance, Parks, Buildings, City Clerk, IT and Office for the Aging as volunteers.
“This is a wonderful week of gratitude and celebration, but for some families in our city it can be more stressful due to financial pressures," said City Manager Kathleen Gill. "We are thankful for all of our partners who have come together for these two events to make their holidays brighter.”
Kelly Johnson, Executive Director of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau said, “These events not only provide essential resources, but serve as a reminder of the support system we have in place for those in need.”
The giving spirit in New Rochelle doesn’t end this week. The Youth Bureau continues its benevolent efforts with the annual Give a Gift initiative, ensuring that children of local families in need experience joy during the December holiday season. Individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring gifts for children from the wish list should contact the New Rochelle Youth Bureau at (914) 654-2045 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for gifts is December 7, 2023.
As the holiday season unfolds, the City of New Rochelle has curated a comprehensive list of holiday donation and drive opportunities, including local and county-wide organizations that serve New Rochelle. In the true spirit of community, residents are encouraged to contribute to these initiatives and spread the warmth of the season.
