Bastille Day Celebrations Include Flag Raising Ceremony, Jazz Concerts

The New Rochelle Sister City Committee is pleased to welcome the community to a series of events celebrating Bastille Day and City’s partnership with La Rochelle France:

  • Friday, July 14th at 9:30 AM, City Hall: Flag raising and Jazz ensemble

Join City officials and Sister City Committee members for a ceremony featuring the raising of the French and American flags, symbolizing the historic friendship and cultural exchanges between the two cities. Committee member James Kaplan, Esq. will speak about “Lafayette: the French Connection”. Following the ceremony, enjoy a performance by local artist Brian Carter with special guests Ras Chemash “The Singing Chef”, and musicians from La Rochelle, France: Emmanuell Pelletier, Maud Gadrat and Sasha Petrochine Rousseau.

  • Friday, July 14 at 7PM, Faneuil Park: Outdoor jazz concert at the east intersection of Main and Huguenot Streets, featuring Brio Award winner Giorgos Nazos and vocalist Tamuz Nissim, along with Brian Carter and the La Rochelle musicians.
  • Saturday, July 15 at 2PM, Ruby Dee Park at Library Green: New Rochelle Jazz The Brian Carter Group will kick off an afternoon of jazz with cameos by the La Rochelle musicians, followed by the Wayne Henderson Sextet at 4PM. Afternoon festivities also feature food trucks, artisan, crafters and more on Lawton Street, as well as the Mobile City Hall staffed by members of the departments of Buildings, Fire Department and Public Works. The event will be followed by the evening Downtown Summer Sizzle concert featuring U2 Tribute Band “Unforgettable Fire”. 

The Bastille Day ceremony is presented by the New Rochelle Jazz Festival, and the New Rochelle-La Rochelle Sister City Initiative, which seeks to deepen the 335-year bond of friendship between New Rochelle and La Rochelle, France.
