Sunny days, shorts and flip flops – it’s starting to feel like summer, and with the warmer weather comes the return of the Summer Sounds Concert Series to New Rochelle.

The beloved series of free concerts kicks off June 28th as the New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) presents its annual summer concert series at both the historic Hudson Park band shell and right downtown in the heart of the city at New Ro Parc (455 Main Street between North Avenue and LeCount Place). Both locations will feature great bands and food trucks.

The Summer Sounds Concert Series will begin its 16th season on June 28th with The Loyales, a band New York Magazine described as “like a living, breathing jukebox,” and finish on August 30th with FDR Drive playing R & B, disco and Motown hits; in between the series will feature an eclectic lineup of musicians performing everything from Top 40 favorites to mellow jazz,  Grateful Dead jams to classical opera, as well as Latin, Reggae, funk and soul. In all, music lovers will get to hear exciting live music at Hudson Park on 10 consecutive Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, plus 9 Friday evening concerts at 7:30 pm at New Ro Parc.

In addition, NRCA will present an evening of FREE Shakespeare at Hudson Park with the acclaimed Irvington Shakespeare Company’s production of “Pericles, Prince of Tyre” on Sunday, July 23rd at 6:30 pm.  For more information go to

As always there will be food trucks on site for all events offering meals and snacks for sale. In addition, the Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse will once again offer free yoga in the park every Wednesday before the Hudson Park concerts. Instructor Angela Derecas Taylor will offer a free class suitable for people of all abilities from 6 to 6:45 pm.

The Summer Sounds concert series is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and co-sponsored by Monarch Assisted Living, Montefiore New Rochelle, LMXD and Wilder Balter Partners,  RXR, Town House Restaurant, New Rochelle Parks Foundation, Francella Property and Westchester Pop Stars.

“Attendance at last summer’s concerts was off the charts,” says Theresa Kump Leghorn, President of NRCA, “and this year more than 164 bands applied for one of the 19 available slots, so we couldn’t be more excited to bring outstanding live music to Hudson Park as well as downtown New Rochelle.”

Vin Parise, Commissioner of New Rochelle’s Dept. of Parks & Recreation, says “The Summer Sounds Concert Series every summer at Hudson Park is one of the most highly attended public events on our calendar year after year.  We are thrilled to once again partner with NRCA for this annual tradition along our waterfront and the lineup of entertainment this summer is terrific.  We hope to see you on Wednesday nights at Hudson Park!”

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) was created by the New Rochelle City Council in 1975 to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts. For four decades NRCA has worked to fulfill that mission by sponsoring art exhibitions, theatrical productions, dance recitals, film screenings, lectures, and concert series. In addition, NRCA has sponsored public art -- like the popular NRNY Murals downtown -- and created ArtsFest, while helping to build relationships between the arts, the business community and city government. The NRCA website  is the “go-to” place for information about the arts. NRCA’s programs are made possible, in part, by ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County Government, the City of New Rochelle, and the support of community donations.
