On May 9th, 2023, at about 12:18pm, New Rochelle Police were notified by the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center that a stolen vehicle had entered New Rochelle and was heading into the Home Depot parking lot on Weyman Avenue. New Rochelle Detectives responded and located the vehicle, which was occupied by three people. When Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects initially tried to evade but quickly stopped to flee on foot. The vehicle was left in ‘reverse’ when the driver fled, and the vehicle reversed and collided into an unmarked police car causing minor injury to the Detective driving that vehicle. Two male suspects were caught after a brief foot pursuit into Home Depot, and a third suspect, a female, did not flee and was caught with the vehicle. All suspects were juveniles and were not injured during this incident. The injured Detective sought medical treatment for minor injuries to his shoulder and back and returned to work.
All suspects have a return date for Family Court on May 11th, 2023.
