Volunteer New York! and the City of New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department partnered to bring together 250 volunteers on Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, for New Rochelle Parks Clean-up Weekend, an annual occurrence that provides community members with a weekend of volunteer engagement and civic pride.
During this weekend of service, nearly 500 hours of volunteering were completed across 13 parks. This resulted in 106 bags of trash being removed from the New Rochelle community. Parks Clean-up Weekend was open to all New Rochelle community members, and volunteers were tasked with various beautification and outdoor spring-cleaning duties, including trail maintenance, trash removal, playground, and beach cleanup, and more.
Vincent Parise, the Commissioner of the New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department stated “The Parks Cleanup Weekend, held in collaboration with Volunteer New York!, has once again proven to be a tremendous success, with increasing numbers of volunteers and cleanup locations. It has become one of the most sought-after service days for families in and beyond New Rochelle.”
Jeanette Gisbert, the Executive Director of Volunteer New York!, expressed gratitude for the steadfast partnership that her organization has maintained with the City of New Rochelle. The collaboration has enabled volunteers to engage in initiatives that aim to preserve the cleanliness, greenery, and accessibility of community spaces for the enjoyment of all.
