A LINC BETWEEN NEIGHBORS: AN EXCITING COMMUNITY-LED EFFORT WILL TRANSFORM MEMORIAL HIGHWAY

The proposed community-led “LINC” project will provide a vital connection between downtown, the train station, the library, and Lincoln Avenue – creating safer mobility options and a revitalized park space, while elevating local businesses

-Residents are encouraged to participate in interactive design workshops on 3/4 and 3/6 at Bethesda Baptist Church and Generations Church-

The City of New Rochelle’s Department of Development is looking for community input to shape the design of The LINC, a linear park proposed for Memorial Highway. Created in the 1950s to connect I-95 and the Hutchinson River Parkway and Cross County Parkway, Memorial Highway displaced a vibrant, close-knit African-American community but then was never built out to its full capacity. The LINC’s aesthetic and functional goal is to build back the connections between the local community and downtown while adding open green space, park amenities, and recreational opportunities to the surrounding area.

The concept for The LINC originated from the City’s work with the New Rochelle Lincoln Avenue Task Force, launched in 2017. The City recognized The LINC as a major benefit to the community, as shown by its application to the 2018 NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), which provided seed funding for the project. The goal of The LINC is to reestablish a critical connection between the local community and downtown, transforming a local burden into a new point of community pride embodied and experienced in a unique green-space resource.

If you live or work in New Rochelle, we invite you to participate in the design workshop that will help create an exciting and interactive park experience for residents.

Please join us, and ask a friend or family member to join, on either or both days. You’ll learn about the upcoming project – how it came to be, our collective vision for its construction, and what we can expect upon completion. Join us and share your unique ideas or suggestions with our team.
