The New Rochelle Fire Department hosted their Awards & Promotion Ceremony on Wednesday, October 19 in the Council Chambers in City Hall. The ceremony started off by remembering those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Fire Commissioner and Chief Andrew Sandor was joined by Mayor Noam Bramson, City Manager Charles Strome, City and Fire Department staff and families as he honored a number of firefighters for their acts of bravery and heroism during the past year.

“During Fire Prevention Month, we recognize the essential work our department performs all year long. Today, we honor those members whose distinguished service has impacted our community and beyond,” said Chief Sandor.

Awards were given for nine separate incidents, including unit citations, lifesaving awards and a Class 2 Citation. Firefighter Vincent Costa was awarded the Fire Commissioner’s award for his hard work and dedication, and Captain Barry Nechis was presented the 2022 Arthur Luce Klein Award, in recognition for his outstanding work in Emergency Management.  In addition, Captain Brett Hendrie was awarded the inaugural Captain Andy DiMaggio Award for his work in training the Department, and consistently going above and beyond the call.

The following Firefighters were also promoted to Lieutenant: for 2021, Gary Bruzzese, Simon Mobiglia, Chris Mohrmann, Babatunde Ogunleye, Jason Costa, Durette Tyler and for 2022, John Williams. Also at the ceremony, Chief Sandor presented City Manager Strome with a NRFD sweatshirt as a token of appreciation for helping the Fire Department move forward and grow with the City.
