The City of New Rochelle has partnered with Westchester Residential Opportunities as part of its commitment to provide qualified low-to-moderate income New Rochelle residents with down payment assistance. The program offers training and support to residents to understand the responsibility of homeownership to not only successfully purchase their home, but to ensure they keep their home. After a successful Homebuying Orientation presentation on September 21, the City’s Department of Development is continuing outreach to first-time homebuyers with details on the new Down Payment Assistance Program through a series of informational sessions next month:
-October 5: A Co-op and Condo Informational Session will inform participants about the differences between a Co-op and Condo and some dos and don’ts for purchasing one.
-October 12: Presented in Spanish, a Homebuyer Orientation will be presented by Westchester Residential Opportunities. This presentation will go over the process and benefits of buying a home, as well as financing basics and other fundamentals of the home buying process. The presentation will describe the City’s Down-payment Assistance Program as well and there will be a Q&A session. The English-language Homebuying Orientation, presented on September 21, can be viewed online.
-October 26: Presented in Spanish, this Co-op and Condo Informational Session will inform participants about the differences between a Co-op and Condo and some dos and don’ts for purchasing one.
The October 5 and 26 presentations will be held in person at City Hall/Council Chambers, 515 North Avenue and will also be live streamed and carried live on NRTV cable channels Verizon 28 and Optimum 75. Due to a meeting conflict, the October 12 presentation will be held in the City Hall Annex, 90 Beaufort Place, Room B-1 and will not be streamed live. It will be recorded and viewable online beginning the next day.
Launched in April, the City’s generous First-Time Home Buyer’s Down Payment Assistance Program targets prospective buyers of single-family homes, cooperative apartments (co-ops) and condominiums. This initiative will help make the American Dream of homeownership a reality for local low- and moderate-income households and address the racial wealth gap facing communities across the state and nation.
