On January 5th, 2022, at about 3:48am, New Rochelle Police responded to 270 Main Street on a report of a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was found to have what appeared to be serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. New Rochelle Police Accident Investigators were called to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
Investigators developed leads and were able to locate the vehicle and driver, who was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Vehicular Assault 1st Degree and Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Accident.

Fidel Zacarias, 36 years of age, of Harrison, NY.

Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated – Vehicle and Traffic Law 1192.2a – Misdemeanor
Vehicular Assault 1st Degree – Penal Law 120.04 – D Felony
Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Accident - Vehicle and Traffic Law 600.02 – E Felony
Victim: A 22-year-old male New Rochelle Resident - in critical condition. His name is being withheld for privacy reasons. His family has been notified.
