City Update- January 28

This NewRoAlert was sent citywide on January 28. To sign up to receive calls/texts/emails, visit www.newrochelleny.com/newroalert

This is the City of New Rochelle with a public health update.

Yesterday, New York State lifted the yellow zone in New Rochelle.

While this is welcome news, COVID rates remain high, with nearly 1,000 active cases in New Rochelle and with a more contagious variant beginning to spread nationally.  Moreover, statewide COVID restrictions still apply.  In short, this is not the time to let down our guard.   Please continue to act responsibly by wearing a mask, washing your hands, keeping your distance, and avoiding large gatherings.

The vaccination process is underway and eligibility continues for anyone aged 65 and older, along with first responders, teachers, health care providers, and other essential workers.  Because of limited supply, however, most vaccination sites are not taking appointments, which is frustrating.  As supply increases, we expect the vaccination process to become more accessible and predictable.  For now, please be patient and persistent.

The City website www.newrochelleny.com/coronavirus has links to the New York State and County vaccination sites. You can call also visit ny.gov/vaccine or call the State hotline at 833-NYS-4-VAX.  That’s 833-697-4829. If you are a senior in need of special assistance making a reservation for your vaccination, you can contact New Rochelle’s Office for the Aging at (914) 654-2363.

This has been Mayor Noam Bramson.  Thank you for listening, and stay safe.
