[ARCHIVED] Volunteer Now for Outdoor Workdays at Ward Acres Park

Ward Acres is New Rochelle’s largest City park, featuring a thriving native hardwood forest, open meadows, a community garden, the county’s largest dog park and historical assets from its heritage as a former country estate and farm. To help protect and restore its beauty and landscape, the Ward Acres Conservancy in partnership with the City of New Rochelle is seeking volunteers for bi-monthly workdays throughout the year.

Volunteers will work to control invasive vines, preserve legacy trees, and improve wildlife habitats. Depending on the day, activities will include cutting and digging out invasive plants and vines, keeping trails clear and passable, and planting native saplings and shrubs.  The program is coordinated through Volunteer New York! and is suitable for ages 16 and up (or ages 12-15 with adult supervision)

Upcoming dates in 2020 are as follows:

            Saturday, November 21: 10AM-12PM

            Tuesday, December 1: 1-3PM

            Sunday, December 20: 10AM-12 PM

The program will resume in January 2021. Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and bring water and snacks. Training and some tools and supplies will be provided, and then volunteers will move to the worksite. COVID precautions will be in place.
