Those who suffered from COVID-19 found a way to give back to the community. At Young Israel, an early hotspot for the virus, dozens of recovered community members were among the first to donate blood plasma to be used in an experimental treatment of current COVID-19 patients under development at Montefiore Health System. A vial of blood was drawn from participants who had previously tested positive for the virus, but had been symptom-free for two weeks. A nasal swab was also taken to confirm they are negative. If you have recovered from COVID-19 and are interested in donating blood plasma, please review donor criteria and complete the survey at the New York Blood Center.
