[ARCHIVED] Flat Roof Danger: Snow & Ice Cause Potential for Collapse

** SNOW /ICE CAUSES POTENTIAL FOR COLLAPSE **
A heavy layer of snow and ice can mean danger for flat roof structures in the area. Property owners are urged to assess the snow loads on residential and commercial flat roofs including elevated parking structures, car dealerships, warehouses, theaters, auditoriums and gymnasiums and examine for early signs of failure.
For safety’s sake:
- Keep roof drains clear of ice and accumulated debris
- Keep the bottom of downspouts and drains clear of snow and ice so the water has a place to drain
- Ensure that snow is not plowed or shoveled against downspouts, which will prevent proper drainage and add load.
