The New Rochelle Police Department honored fallen Police Officer Kathleen O’ Connor on Tuesday, August 21 with a display of the United States Honor Flag. The flag ceremonially arrived at 7:45 AM and was displayed at NRPD headquarters lobby until 4PM, marking her shift hours. Since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting our lives, our homes and our country, and also those who currently serve our communities and our nation
On August 16, 2018, after a long and courageous battle, Officer O’Connor died as a result of a 9/11 related illness. Officer O’Connor began her career in January 1998, and was most recently assigned as the Warrant Officer in the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. After the September 11th Terrorist Attack of the World Trade Center, Officer O’Connor responded to Ground Zero to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts. She volunteered her time to help other first responders sift through the debris piles. Kathy was an exemplary police officer, and will be sorely missed by those who knew her.
The Department’s thoughts and prayers are with Kathy’s husband, Anthony Funigiello, and family
