[ARCHIVED] New Rochelle Firefighters Save Toddler

On October 30th, Firefighters from Station 3 at 756 North Avenue miraculously resuscitated an unresponsive toddler brought directly to the station by his frantic parents just after 7PM. On Wednesday, grateful couple Amanda Capraro and Matthew Pino brought Angelo (16 mos) and his brother Matthew Jr. back to the firehouse to express their gratitude to the members of Squad 1 (Engine 23 and Ladder 13): Lt Tom Moriarity, Lt Joe Sinatra, and Firefighters Peter Cordaro, Vincent Costa, Billy Colangelo, Frank Gagliardo, and Ryan Pascuzzi.

“The guys went straight to work, and were amazing,” said Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio, noting that every department member is an EMT and trained in CPR. “In lifesaving, every minute is precious. We are thrilled and grateful that this story had a happy ending.”

“We are tremendously proud of the members of our fire department and the work they do day in and day out,” said City Manager Chuck Strome, “but it’s instances like these that really highlight their skill and dedication. Their quick thinking and ready response turned this situation around.”

"We're always proud of New Rochelle's outstanding Fire Department, but never more so than this week. Their life-saving help for little Angelo is a good illustration of the professionalism and skill that New Rochelle’s bravest demonstrate every day,” said Mayor Noam Bramson.
