[ARCHIVED] New Equipment for NRFD

IMG_0107 (2)

The New Rochelle Fire Department rolled out three new fire apparatus this week: two new pumpers and a tower ladder.

According to Chief Lou DiMeglio, “The two pumpers are each equipped with a 2000 gpm two-stage pump and carry 500 gallons of water.  Their pumps make them suitable for service in commercial districts with taller buildings.  All the new apparatus are equipped with computers and GPS.  They also have all LED lights which are brighter and more economical than those used in our older apparatus. These new pumpers replace a 2004 and 2005 American LaFrance pumper.  (ALF is no longer in business and parts are all but impossible to attain.) The new 2017 Spartan ERV 100 ft. tower ladder will be housed at Station 1 on Harrison St.  It has a 2000 gpm waterous pump and carries 300 gallons of water.  It has a 100 ft. reach and an assortment of tools for both rescue and firefighting. The tower ladder replaces the old Ladder 11, purchased in 2000.”

“This investment of over $2 million is part of our ongoing commitment to upgrade our essential equipment through our Capital Improvement Program,” said City Manager Chuck Strome. “Now with our adopted 10-year capital plan, we will be able to replace other aging pieces in the years to come.”

The total equipment cost is $2,440.000:  $620,000 for each pumper- total $1,240,000 and $1,200,000  for the tower ladder. Chief DiMeglio noted special thanks to NRFD Captain Barry Nechis, who carefully managed the entire process from purchase to delivery.
