Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner Dance - POSTPONED

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Due to inclement weather, this event had been postponed to April 4th.

On March 21, 2018 the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce is expected to have a "starry, starry night" at its Annual Dinner Dance where one of its honorees will be the famous Don McLean, of the top hit songs “American Pie” and “Vincent.” Earlier in the day Mr. McLean will publicly dedicate his existing structure at the Walk of Fame in Ruby Dee Park that was put up in 2014. The ceremony, in which Don McLean will attend himself, is open to the public and begins at 4 PM.  It will be hosted by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and all are welcome to attend the dedication. Two days later in New York City, Don McLean will be launching a new album and jetting off for a world tour shortly thereafter.

Local, living, legend, Don McLean was a resident of New Rochelle during his childhood and also attended night school at Iona College, where he received a bachelor's in Business Administration in 1968. This will be his first time returning to New Rochelle publicly since he received an honorary doctorate from Iona College in 2001. The singer, songwriter, performer is expected to receive an honor later that evening by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce for his Lifetime Achievement at their Annual Dinner Dance.

In addition to Don McLean receiving the honor at the Dinner Dance, the Chamber of Commerce is also honoring some hometown heroes. First, Cooper Colwell a longtime community member of New Rochelle and President of H.E. Colwell and Sons, which is one of New Rochelle's original businesses and was originally founded by Cooper’s great grandfather. In addition, Cooper Colwell has been serving on the board of directors for more than 25 years, giving his undying support and various other organizations throughout New Rochelle during his lengthy career.

Also being honored this year is Daniel Bonnet of The Center for College & Careers at The Guidance Center of Westchester. Headed by Daniel Bonnet, this center has a satellite office at New Rochelle High School and helps hundreds of local high school aged children in Westchester get on the right path with their careers, many of them being employed right here in New Rochelle.

The fourth honoree is Frank Bombace of a local family business, New Rochelle Auto / Body, celebrating their 36th year in business on 43 Potter Ave. A local businessman, Frank, has most recently made his mark by assisting with the past few Thanksgiving Parades in New Rochelle by donating supplies, resources, staff and acting as an ambassador to local businesses to assist in sponsoring the parade and its recent addition of balloons.

Each of these incredible four men are being honored at the annual dinner dance taking place at the VIP Country Club on Wednesday, March 21st. Tickets are $120 per person and are available by email or by calling (914) 632-5700. Later this year the Chamber of Commerce will host the Women of Excellence Award Dinner in which they honor outstanding women of the community.
