Our Department

Public Works is one of the busiest departments in the city. We oversee key areas of the City’s governmental functions including: engineering, roads, storm water drainage and sewer collection systems, public buildings, and the City’s vehicle and equipment fleet. Often behind the scenes, residents and visitors benefit daily form the services we provide.

Carrying out the policies and objectives set by the City Manager, the Public Works Department works to protect and maintain the city’s investment in its infrastructure. The Public Works Department maintains 40 plus buildings and provides carpentry, electrical, roofing, HVAC, masonry, sheetrock, painting, alarm and communications systems installation, trash collection and more for these spaces.

In addition to maintaining existing  spaces and roadways, the Public Works Department undertakes various construction projects, among them, streets storm drains, seawalls, ball fields, sidewalks, recreation facilities, and some buildings and offices.

Seasonally, crews are busy citywide doing leaf collection, maintaining street trees, snow plowing, road mowing and more. The Public Works Department also maintains our streets with litter control, sewer and draining maintenance, traffic control system, line painting, paving, and more. And it maintains and cleans up to 180 miles of roadway, plus 90+ miles of drainage pipe 2500 catch basins.
