Homeowner's Responsibility

Article XXI, Section 197 of the Code of the City of New Rochelle requires adjoining property owners to keep sidewalks and curbs at all times in a state of good repair, free of defects, clean and free of snow, ice, and other obstructions.

Sidewalks and curbs may no longer be replaced with asphalt (blacktop). Sidewalks must be replaced with utilizing concrete (or slate in some historic districts) and curbs shall be replaced only with properly installed concrete or stone. On a annual basis, the City may issue a contract for the repair and replacement of sidewalks and curbs.
