The New Rochelle Police Department has many different units to choose from: Critical Incident Unit, K9 Unit, Traffic Unit, Harbor Unit, SCUBA Unit, Community Engagement Unit, Youth Affairs Unit, Forensics Unit, Criminal Investigations Division and more. Most of these require specialized training which we provide. 


While serving as a Police Recruit in the Police Academy, recruits make $61,183.00 (’25)
A Police Recruit starting salary upon successful completion of the academy – $61,183 (’25)
Current qualifying Police transfers, based on active years of police service, may earn up to $115,637. (’25)
At present, the maximum base salary that may be earned as a police officer is $115,637 (’25) up to 119,107 (‘26)
Police recruits receive a contractual yearly ‘step’ pay increase through years 1-6.
Officers with more than 6 years receive a contractual 4-step longevity pay increase starting at $2,425.00 (’25) up to $4,900.00 based on years of service.

Work Schedule

A contractual 4 Day/72 Hour Chart @ 35.5 Hours a week.  4 Days On Two Days Off /  Four Days On Two Days Off / Four Days On Three Days Off.

  Paid Leave:

Minimum Qualifications

Must be legal residents of Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Nassau County, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn or Staten Island at time of application.

Must be at least 19 years old on or before the date of the written test.
Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License at time of interview.
Sixty (60) college credits or thirty (30) college credits plus two (2) years of active military duty with honorable discharge.
