Andrew Sandor
Chief Sandor is a 22-year veteran of the New Rochelle Fire Department. He began his career as a probationary firefighter in 1996. In 2002 he was promoted to Fire Lieutenant and then to Fire Captain in 2008. During his time as a company officer, Chief Sandor served in all 5 fire stations in New Rochelle.
In September 2017, Sandor was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to Support Services, in charge of purchases and maintenance of apparatus, as well as supervising the department’s Training and Safety divisions. He also took part in initial development of the fire department’s active shooter response and cancer prevention programs. He was promoted to the position of Interim Fire Chief on June 29, 2018 and Fire Chief on September 1, 2018 .
Chief Sandor has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Iona College, as well as an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Corning Community College. He also served for several years as a New York State and Westchester County Fire Instructor.
