2003 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• The Davenport Lofts on Main
project nearing completion, is currently selling units
and will begin occupation in Fall of 2003.
• Monroe College has completed construction on
its newest building, the renovated former Libretts building
on Main Street. An application is pending before the
Planning Board for a 100 room, 6-story dormitory building.
• The Intermodal Transportation Center is under
construction and is expected to be open in early 2004
• Iona Dormitories were completed on schedule
and were opened in August, 2003. The East Campus plan
(100,000 sq. ft. of development) is undergoing final
SEQR processing before the Planning Board.
• North Avenue streetscaping and widening is expected
to start construction this fall
• A preliminary agreement has been reached in
the development of Parcel 1A
• The planning study with the Horne Rose Group
for re-development of the Municipal Marina is underway
and scheduled for presentation to City Council in late
2003
• The Restaurant Recruitment Program was implemented
and numerous new restaurants have opened
• Phase 5 of the Downtown Streetscape Program
on North Avenue and Leroy Place has been completed and
improvements to North Avenue from Main to Anderson Plaza
have been designed and bid with construction to be completed
this year
• A planning study of the redevelopment potential
at key downtown sites has been completed and submitted
to Council
• Application has been made for $575,000 in State
grants for the re-development of the waterfront.\
• Two new residential mixed-use projects were
approved (Huguenot Hill 28 units and Bluegill Realty
90 units).
• Home sales are underway at 4 luxury home subdivisions
• 3 low/moderate income housing projects have
been approved involving a total of 226 units of affordable
housing.
• Several townhouse infill condominium projects
involving 32 units were approved with some currently
under construction
• Numerous changes were made to update and correct
the zoning code and map regarding Cabarets, Parking
and Landscaping Standards, Telecommunication Standards
and PWDE-5 Zoning.
• Several new commercial projects were approved
including a new CVS, Auto Zone and Webster Avenue shopping
area.
Objectives
• Complete mixed use development
on Parcel 1A
• Expand upon success of the Business Improvement
District
• Begin operations at the Intermodal Transportation
Center
• Complete construction of North Avenue Streetscaping
and widening project at Iona College
• Complete design and begin construction of the
next phase of Avalon on the Sound
• Develop and send out RFQ for Echo Bay re-development
• Continue the environmental assessment and remediation
of the waterfront
• Continue the process of assisting the Department
of Public Works to facilitate relocation to the Beechwood
site
• Complete the Streetscaping on the west end of
Main Street
• Complete Monroe and Iona College campus planning
review and approvals
• Complete review and action regarding Thornton
Donovan, St. Nerses Seminary, and Young Israel.
• Plan for economic development of vacant commercial
sites including former REI property, former Palazettis,
and Fifth Avenue properties.
