1. What is the easiest first step I can take to reduce my energy bill?

Replace your incandescent light bulbs with CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs.) CFL’s use a fraction of the energy of regular incandescent bulbs.

2. How can I save money on my gasoline bill?

Don’t idle your car for more than 10 seconds, instead turn the car off. Idling your car for more than 10 seconds uses more fuel than restarting the engine.

3. What should I do with the plastic bags I get from supermarkets and other stores?

Don’t throw them in the trash. Return them to your supermarket and they will be recycled into plastic materials.

4. What should I do with my old cell phones?

Recycle them by putting them into one of the four cell phone recycling bins around the City.

5. What should I do with my old fluorescent light bulbs?

Fluorescent light bulbs may not be thrown in the trash. Home Depot collects them in a bin near the entrance of the store or they should be disposed of at the Westchester County Hazardous Waste Days collections.
